Buck Atom - Tulsa Meadow Gold District Roadside Attraction on Route 66 Mother Road.jpg

TULSA, Okla. - March 29, 2019. The first of many new developing additions to Tulsa's historic Route 66 hits the Meadow Gold District vision head on. Mary Beth Babcock, owner of Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios, is one of many business owners along the Mother Road stretch that has a strong passion for the preservation and enhancement of the rich Route 66 history in the metro area. This is an extraordinary first step towards a collaborative community effort of building unique infrastructures that Tulsa can be proud of and that intrigue visitors from around the nation.

The statue installation will feature an official celebration on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:00AM. Guest speakers will include Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell, author & historian Michael Wallis, Mary Beth Babcock, and several others.

The addition of this American giant "Muffler Man" to the Meadow Gold District reiterates the importance of public art in the city. Although Tulsa boasts sculptures and murals throughout its different areas, this Buck Atom statue will be the only one of its kind. Moreover, the tie between this new piece of city art and the Mother Road-Route 66 area is a good reminder of why it is necessary for Tulsa to continue its embrace of historical significance.
